Moms in Motion Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Program



Why attend prenatal Moms in Motion?
Studies have determined that exercise during pregnancy has many benefits which include:
·  Lessening the discomforts of pregnancy
·  Shorter labor times
·  Reduction in rate of Cesarean Sections
·  Improved circulation, muscle tone, and posture
·  Higher Apgar scores in newborns

Why attend postnatal Moms in Motion?
·  Reduces postpartum depression
·  Faster return to pre-pregnant weight
·  Improved circulation, muscle tone, and overall general health
·  Strengthen pelvic floor muscles

Where are the classes held?
Classes are held at The Stowe Family YMCA in Belmont and at The Birthplace at Gaston Memorial. You may attend any of the available sessions at either facility.

About our classes:
Activities include:
·  aerobics
·  hand weights
·  bands (versa-tubes)
·  physiotherapy balls
·  stretching and toning exercises

Fees:
YMCA members may attend at no charge (as long as requirements are met prior to attending). Non-members of the YMCA may select to purchase 12 classes for $75 or 24 classes for $120. You will be issued a card which allows you to enter the YMCA and classes at either facility.
***Childwatch (daycare) is available at the Stowe Family YMCA at certain times at no additional charge

Requirements and Enrollment:
Prenatal: You must be 15 or more weeks pregnant with no complications that would prohibit exercise. Postnatal: You must be 4 weeks postpartum after an uncomplicated vaginal delivery or at least 6 weeks postpartum if you had complications or a C-section delivery. Moms may attend up until baby is 12 months of age.
Prenatal and Postnatal: Prior to starting in any class you must complete the following (please bring them to your first class):
·  Health History Form
·  Physicians Consent Form
·  Exercise Consent
·  Moms in Motion Information sheet

To Receive Required Forms and a Schedule of Class Days and Times: YMCA members may pick up a Moms in Motion packet at The Stowe Family YMCA front desk.

Moms In Motion exercise program follows the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) Guidelines and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) fitness recommendations, as well as the most current research and updates on exercise and pregnancy.
