More About The Family Advisory Board
FAB volunteers support current families in the NICU in a
variety of ways and with a unique perspective. These former
NICU families are able to draw upon their own experiences to
help other families that are undergoing similar
circumstances. The Neonatalogists, Nurse Practitioners and
nurses in our NICU provide much needed support to NICU
families, but FAB members are able to provide support on a
more emotional level.
Many FAB volunteers are available to talk and more
importantly listen to new parents. NICU parents can request
to be matched with a FAB volunteer. This one-on-one
connection helps NICU parents share their feelings, worries
and progress with someone that can truly understand what it
is like to be the parent of a premature or sick newborn.
"Welcome Home" - For parents that have spent an extended
amount of time with their baby in the NICU, the FAB
volunteers will provide a "welcome home" meal. One less meal
to prepare is the FAB's recipe for an easier transition
home.
FAB hosts a NICU re-union celebration every September. All
NICU "graduates" (for the past two years) and their families
are invited to attend a day of fun, food, and fellowship.
